Pierre Larochelle (Ph.D., Mechanical Engineering, University of California at Irvine) is an Associate Dean for the College of Engineering and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Florida Institute of Technology. His research focuses on the design of robotic mechanical systems. He is the founding director of the Robotics and Spatial Systems Laboratory (RASSL), has over 100 publications, holds one US patent, and has served as a consultant on robotics, automation, machine design, and computer-aided design. He serves as an Associate Editor for Mechanics Based Design of Structures & Machines, as the Chair of the ASME Mechanisms & Robotics Committee, has served as an Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Mechanical Design, is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and a member of Tau Beta Pi, Pi Tau Sigma, and ASEE.
Pierre Larochelle,工学博士(加州大学欧文分校毕业),现任佛罗里达科技大学工学院副院长,机械工程专业教授。Pierre Larochelle教授作为机器人和空间系统实验室(佛罗里达科技大学)首位主任,主要从事机器人机械系统设计方面的研究。Larochelle教授是机器人学、自动化、机械设计、计算机辅助设计等研究领域的知名专家,已发表学术论文百余篇,并拥有美国专利1项。Larochelle教授目前担任《Mechanics Based Design of Structures & Machines》和《Journal of Mechanical Design 》(ASME)副主编,以及ASME“机构与机器人学会主席,同时还是美国机械工程学会、Tau Beta PiPi Tau Sigma ASEE会员。 
 【讲座简介】:
   In this presentation Prof. Pierre Larochelle will summarize recent research results from the Robotics and Spatial Systems Laboratory (RASSL) at the Florida Institute of Technology. Recent research results have been made in the design of spatial and spherical closed kinematic chains as well as the biologically inspired design of a novel six-legged walking apparatus that employs spherical four-bar mechanisms as leg driving linkages. Simulations and videos of numerous RASSL designed robotic systems will be shown. In addition to summarizing the recent research contributions of RASSL, two challenges for the advancement of the state of the art in the design of robotic mechanical systems are proposed and discussed. 
    Pierre Larochelle教授将在讲座中总结机器人和空间系统实验室(RASSL)近期研究成果。主要包括空间和球面闭环运动链设计,以及受到仿生学启发而采用球面四杆机构做为腿部驱动的新型六足行走装置。同时将会展示RASSL设计的众多机器人系统的仿真及视频。除了总结RASSL最新的研究成果, Pierre Larochelle教授还就推进机器人机械系统的艺术设计提出了两点挑战并进行了论述。
