The numerical evaluation of solution methods first of all requires a precise definition of the underlying problem. In their typology, Wäscher, Haußner and Schumann (2007) have presented a general framework for the definition of standard problems in the field cutting and packing (C&P). These standard problems may serve as a sound basis for the development of problem generators and the identification of challenging test problem (benchmark) instances.

In this presentation, the author will, at first, review some of the essential features of the typology relevant to the evaluation of solution methods in C&P.  Also some general requirements will be formulated to be satisfied by problem generators and benchmark instances. For some of the C&P standard problems, existing problem generators and benchmark instances will be reviewed and analyzed with respect to these requirements. Based on the identification of some general deficiencies, an outlook on potential areas of future research will be given.

数值求解方法的评价首先要根植于对问题的辨识。在他们的分类学研究中，文献Waescher, Haußner and Schumann (2007) 给出了有关切割与布局标准问题(C&P)辨识的框架。这些标准问题可以为问题生成器的研制和比较测题（benchmark)的辨识提供坚实的基础。

在本次讲座中，作者将首先回顾与C&P问题求解方法评价有关的基本分类学。而后对问题生成器和比较测题提出一般要求，并针这些要求对部分现有切割与布局标准问题的问题生成器和比较测题进行综述和分析。最后，基于据此所发现的一般性问题，给出未来的可能研究领域及其展望。
